Background Story

As the co-founder of Ecolibra, I know firsthand the struggles of living with sensitive skin, eczema, and Topical Steroid Withdrawal. My journey began at just eight years old when I was diagnosed with eczema. Like so many others, my well-meaning parents followed a dermatologist’s recommendation and relied on topical steroid prescriptions as the “solution.”

For 22 years, I used those prescriptions without realizing they were slowly destroying my skin’s natural health. Alongside them, I turned to over-the-counter products that my skin became dependent on: products that masked symptoms but never healed. The cycle was endless. Flare-ups led to prescriptions, which led to stronger dosages, which led to even more sensitivity and flare-ups. I felt hopeless and trapped in a revolving door of artificial fixes.

During the first month of my withdrawal, I felt completely lost, confused about what was happening to my body and baffled by the lack of awareness and real solutions for withdrawal. I tried everything, but nothing brought relief. Then, about a month in, my girlfriend and I took a camping trip, a brief escape that turned into the climax of my withdrawal. It was the worst physical and emotional pain I had ever experienced, and we had to cut the trip short.

When we returned home, I spent an entire day sitting in the bathtub, searching for any sense of comfort. My girlfriend, who has always been passionate about holistic living and crafting remedies from natural ingredients, decided to take matters into her own hands. She began experimenting to find something that could truly help. Her first creation was a simple blend of shea butter, peppermint, and essential oils.

When I applied it for the first time, I felt immediate relief as if my skin, like a crying baby, had finally been soothed. Over the next few weeks, she expanded her creations with other natural ingredients, and my skin began to transform.

Around that same time, I was reading Honor the Earth by Dorothy MacLean and I had an epiphany. Through my own spiritual connection, I realized that nature has already provided everything we need to heal. We are deeply interconnected with plants and the earth itself; true wellness begins when we return to that connection. That realization planted the seed for Ecolibra.

Three years later, I married the love of my life, who supported me through this journey, and I am now completely steroid-free. My skin is healthy, strong, and balanced. This transformation inspired me to create Ecolibra; a brand born from real struggle and genuine recovery. Our mission is to restore skin to its natural balance, offering nature-based solutions that heal rather than harm.

Through Ecolibra, I hope to raise awareness about the harmful cycle of artificial products and steroids, while guiding others toward true recovery, so they too can live freely, comfortably, and confidently in their own skin.
